In the unit for psychotherapy of children and adolescents we offer psychotherapeutic treatment, social care assistance and support to children and adolescents with different psychosocial problems.
Our main goal is to provide immediate, quality and financially accessible psychotherapeutic help in order to achieve long-term improvement in the psychophysical well-being and social inclusion of children and adolescents. If necessary psychotherapeutic interventions also supplemented with social work help.
The important goal is to collaborate with parents and others who live and work with children and adolescents to create solutions and manage stressful situations.

PSYCHOTHERAPY FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS
Psychotherapy with a wide range of forms, methods and techniques can help children and
adolescents with psychosocial problems. However, the development of a confidential psychotherapeutic relationship is always a key factor that facilitates changes in a child's or adolescent's experience, emotions and behaviour.
When considering children and adolescents, the therapist uses a specific approach, where compared to adult psychotherapy there is less emphasis on verbal communication. There’s more emphasis on the use of creative media such as drawing, playing with puppets, figurines, sand and symbols, assembling and building, playing roles, telling fairy tales, stories, songs, etc. to encourage the expression of emotions and to solve problems.
Psychotherapy helps children and adolescents in various ways, e.g. they receive support for dealing with difficult situations, resolve conflicts with people closest to them, understand emotions and try to find new solutions for their problems.
The aims of therapy are e.g. change of behaviour, better relationships with friends or family, calming of anxiety, improvement in learning success, etc. We try to find solutions together with those who turn to us for help and those who are involved in the problem. It is crucial for healthy development that the child or adolescent improves self-esteem in the process of therapy and learns to use social resources better, especially in relationships with loved ones.
The families of children and adolescent play a key role in the process of improving the problems of their. The development of an individual depends on the environment or the relational system in which he grew up. The family plays an important role in an individual's mental, physical, and spiritual development because each member of the family impacts the other.
Working with the whole family can be same or in many cases even more effective than working with individuals. When the whole family progresses, it is better for each individual family member.
TREATEMENT AT HOME
It is especially valuable in crisis situations and when we encounter children’s, adolescent’s or other family member’s resistance of assistance in specialized institutions. Home remedy is more focused on developing a sense of “being with a client or family” rather than “doing something with them”. Joining the family in its living space opens up greater opportunities for creating a cooperative relations and for planning the further development of help. We can more directly identify the physical, psychological, and social resources that family has, as well as the dysfunctional forms of relations in the family. The focus of treatment and events is transferred from the individual to the immediate and wider family. In this way, we also find it easier to encourage common cooperation and assistance.
ADVISORY WORK WITH CHILDREN’S AND ADOLESCENT’S PARENTS AND OTHER CRUCIAL PEOPLE
Parents or custodians are in our opinion the greatest experts for their children, but also experts sometimes need help. In counselling work with parents, we try to identify and understand the problem and co-create possible solutions.
For example, do not hesitate to contact us when:
- you have questions about schooling or upbringing when dealing with setting limits, anger, fear, sleep, etc.
- you have questions about the child's psychosocial development;
- you need help in solving problems in the family, such as rivalry between siblings, the arrival of a new family member;
- there are problems in school or kindergarten;
- you feel that your children no longer listen and obey you;
- your family has to adapt to new circumstances (e.g. death in the family, severe or chronic illness of a family member, relocation, divorce, new partnership, etc.)
GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY AND GROUP PSYCHOSOCIAL SUPPORT
Meeting in a group can have a very therapeutic effect on all participants. Especially for children and adolescents socializing and cooperating with peers in the group is essential for their healthy personal development. The group provides the individual a safe environment for gaining unique experiences through which can learn about self, others and relations.
The group has special advantages over individual therapy, as it enables:
- empathy of group members,
- feeling that your problem is not unique,
- feedback on how our behaviour and emotions are experienced by others,
- experience of mutual support,
- strengthening hope,
- emerging social or socialization skills that help us in all other relations,
- interpersonal learning,
- practicing new manners and actions,
- a sense of connection in a sense of “we”.
